Metric spaces \(X\) and \(Y\) are called roughly isometric if there exists a mapping \(\varphi: X\to Y\), called a rough isometry, such that there are constants \(a\geq 1\) and \(b,c\geq 0\) with the property: \[ a^{-1} d(x,y)- b\leq d(\varphi(x), \varphi(y))\leq ad(x,y)+b, \] for all \(x,y\in X\), and the distance of any point \(y\in Y\) from \(\varphi(X)\) does not exceed \(c\). Observe that \(\varphi\) need not be continuous. Suppose that \(M^ n\) and \(N^ \nu\) are complete Riemannian \(n\) and \(\nu\) manifolds, respectively, with bounded geometry. Let \(M^ n\) and \(N^ \nu\) be roughly isometric. The author proves that then the existence of a nonconstant solution \(u\) to the \(p\)-Laplacian, \(1<p<\infty\), on \(M^ n\) (i.e. \(\text{div} (|\nabla u|^{p-2} \nabla u)=0\)) with finite \(p\)-Dirichlet integral \[ \int_{M^ n} |\nabla u|^ p dx<\infty, \] is equivalent to the existence of a similar function on \(N^ \nu\).
