In the paper under review, a generalization of the Burnside ring of a finite group is given. For a ring \(R\) and a functor \(\Phi\) from the orbit category (essentially) of the group \(G\) to semigroups, the Burnside ring \(\mathbb{B}_R^{\Phi}(G)\) is defined. As an \(R\)-module it is generated by the disjoint union of the images and the multiplication is induced by the naturality properties of the functor. When the images of the functor are groups, the the Burnside ring is a ring with involution. Also, the Burnside ring can be defined as the Grothendieck group of \(\Phi\)-decorated \(G\)-sets. When \(R = \mathbb{Z}\) and the functor is trivial (its image is the trivial semigroup) then the definition gives the classical Burnside ring. The definition also generalizes the cohomological Burnside rings that were defined by \textit{R. Hartmann} and \textit{E. Yalçin} [J. Algebra 310, No. 2, 917--944 (2007; Zbl 1114.19001)], where the functor is the one that sends the subgroup \(H\) to \(H^n(H, M)\) or \(H^*(H, M)\), for some \(G\)-module \(M\). As a special case where the functor is \({\mu}_{\mathbb{K}}(H) = H^2(H, \mathbb{K}^{\times})\), where \(\mathbb{K}\) is a field and \(G\) acts trivial on the group of units \(\mathbb{K}^{\times}\). In the special case when \(\mathbb{K}\) contains the \(|G|\)-th primitive root of \(1\), \({\mu}_{\mathbb{K}}(H)\) is the Schur multiplier of \(H\) and thus it is independent of \(\mathbb{K}\). In the paper, there is an explicit calculation of the marks for \(\mathbb{B}^{\mu}\) for the groups \(S_4\) and \(S_5\). For \({\mu}_{\mathbb{K}}\)- decorated sets, the authors prove that the isomorphisms classes of finite \({\mu}_{\mathbb{K}}\)- decorated \(G\)-sets are in one-to-one correspondence with \(G\)-Morita equivalence classes of semisimple split \(G\)-algebras or isomorphism classes of central extension by \(\mathbb{K}^{\times}\) of \(G\)-action groupoids of finite sets. As applications of the generalization, the authors give base sets for the Kazhdan-Lusztig cells of the affine Weyl group of \(F_4\), using the calculations of the Burnside ring of \(S_4\). Also, information of the representation of the reduced enveloping algebra \(U_{\chi}(\mathfrak{g})\) where \(\mathfrak{g}\) is of type \(F_4\) and \(\chi\) of special type is provided.
