The purpose of this paper is to study the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation in \(L^ 1\) for forces harder than Maxwellian ones and having an angular cutoff. The author proves exponential convergence to equilibrium and stability for arbitrary initial densities using the spectral properties of the linearized collision operator. The present results can be used to study existence of spatially dependent \(L^ 1\)-solutions close to spatially homogeneous ones far from equilibrium.
