The main result of the paper under review is a version of the classical Beurling-Lax-Halmos theorem characterizing the invariant subspaces of the multiplication-by-\(z\) operator on the Hardy space \(H^2_{\mathcal E}({\mathbb D})\) of analytic functions on the unit disk \({\mathbb D}\) with values in the Hilbert space \({\mathcal E}\). In the present version of this classical result, the Hardy space \(H^2_{\mathcal E}({\mathbb D})\) is replaced by the reproducing kernel Hilbert space \(H(k)\) associated with a Nevanlinna-Pick kernel \(k\), while the role of the identity function \(z\) on \({\mathbb D}\) is played by the multipliers corresponding to \(H(k)\). By definition, for the Nevanlinna-Pick kernel \(k:\Omega\times\Omega\to{\mathbb C}\) there exists a positive semidefinite function \(b:\Omega\times\Omega\to{\mathbb C}\) such that \(|b(y,x)|<k(\omega,\omega)\) and \[ k(y,x)k(\omega,\omega)-k(y,\omega)k(\omega,x)=b(y,x)k(y,x), \] where \(\omega\in\Omega\) is fixed such that \(k(\omega,\omega)>0\). Other results of the paper concern versions of the classical factorization theorem for the inner functions that correspond to two nested invariant subspaces of \(H^2_{\mathcal E}({\mathbb D})\).
