Let \(F\) be a totally real number field of degree \(d\). Let \(I\) be the set of embeddings of \(F\) into \(\mathbb C\). Let \(p\) be a rational prime and fix an algebraic closure \(\overline{\mathbb Q_p}\) of \(\mathbb Q_p\) and an isomorphism \(\iota: \mathbb C \overset\sim\rightarrow \mathbb Q_p\). Via composition with \(\iota\) the set \(I\) is identified with the embeddings of \(F\) into \(\overline{\mathbb Q_p}\). Let \(\pi=\otimes'\pi_v\) be a cuspidal automorphic representation of \(\text{GL}_2(\mathbb A_F)\) associated with a Hilbert modular eigenform of weight \(k=(k_i)_{i\in I}\). Let \(\rho_\pi: \text{Gal} (\overline F/F] \to \text{GL}_2(\overline{\mathbb Q_p})\) be the corresponding two-dimensional semisimple representation of the absolute Galois group such that, for any \(v\nmid p \infty\), \[ \text{WD}(\rho_\pi)^{Fr-ss}\equiv\iota \text{Rec}_v(\pi_v\otimes|\cdot|_v^{-1/2}). \tag{1} \] Here \(\text{WD}(\sigma)\) denotes the Weil-Deligne representation over \(\overline{\mathbb Q_p}\) associated to a continuous representation \(\sigma: D_v\to \text{GL}_n(\overline{\mathbb Q_p})\) for a place \(v\nmid\infty\), and \(\text{Rec}_v(\tau)\) denotes the Frobenius semisimple Weil-Deligne representation over \(\mathbb C\) associated with an irreducible admissible representation \(\tau\) of \(\text{GL}_n (F_v)\) by the local Langlands correspondence. \(\iota \text{Rec}_v(\tau)\) is the Weil-Deligne representation over \(\overline{\mathbb Q_p}\) obtained from \(\text{Rec}_v(\tau)\) by change of scalars via the isomorphism \(\iota\). The existence of \(\rho_\pi\) satisfying (1) was established by Carayol, Wiles, Blasius and Rogawski, and Taylor. The author gives a proof of the analog of (1) at places \(v\mid p\) (Theorem 1). \textit{D. Blasius} and \textit{J. D. Rogawski} [Invent. Math. 114, 55--87 (1993; Zbl 0829.11028)] have essentially proved Theorem 1 in the case where some \(k_i>2\) and each \(\pi_v\), \(v|p\), is unramified. \textit{T. Saito} [Inv. Math. 129, No. 3, 607--620 (1997; Zbl 0877.11034) and ``Hilbert modular forms and \(p\)-adic Hodge theory'', Compos. Math. 145, No. 5, 1081--1113 (2009; Zbl 1259.11060)] has proven Theorem 1 when \(d\) is odd or some \(\pi_v\) is square-integrable. The author proves Theorem 1 for forms not covered by the cited works of Saito and of Blasius and Rogawski. The proof uses a base change argument, the automorphy of \(\text{Sym}^2\pi\), and a result of \textit{M. Kisin} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 21, No. 2, 513--546 (2008; Zbl 1205.11060)] concerning potentially semistable deformation rings. Liu [``Lattices in filtered \((\varphi,N)\)-modules'', preprint 2008] has proven Theorem 1, at least for \(p>2\), by an argument that is a, generalization of a result of Kisin cited above.
