New very detailed proofs are given to Theorems 2.5 and 2.64 on finite \(p\)-groups from \textit{P. Hall}'s paper [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 40, 481-501 (1936; Zbl 0015.20201)]. In particular, the author claims filling a gap in the proof of Theorem 2.5. A number of generalizations of these theorems are also proved. For example, if \(G\) is a finite \(p\)-group of order \(p^{k(p-1)+3}\), \(k>2\), of exponent \(>p^k\), and with \(\Omega _k(G)=G\), then either \(G\) is of maximal class or has a normal subgroup \(H\) of order \(p^p\) and exponent \(p\) such that \(G/H\) is of maximal class. -- Counting theorems play an important role in this paper.
