The fifth volume of the ``Handbook of numerical analysis'' (see Zbl 0689.65001, Zbl 0712.65091, Zbl 0806.65001 and Zbl 0864.65001 for Volumes I (1990), II (1991), III (1994) and IV (1995), respectively) contains the second part of the contributions to ``Techniques of scientific computing''.
