The author proves that for the \(H^1\) gradient there is no spectral gap on the loop space of a compact simply connected Riemannian manifold \(M\), provided there is a closed geodesic on a neighborhood of which the curvature of \(M\) is constant and strictly negative. The proof of this result relies on concentration properties of pinned Wiener and Bismut measures on manifolds, established from a concentration result for Brownian bridges on hyperbolic spaces which is also obtained in this paper.
