This is the fifth article of a series on the \(K\)-theory of triangulated categories, continuing [see \textit{A. Neeman}, ``\(K\)-theory for triangulated categories. III(A): The theorem of the heart'', Asian J. Math. 2, No. 3, 495-589 (1998; Zbl 0937.19001), and the citations therein ]. It deals with the main theorem of the series. Roughly, the theorem is about small triangulated categories with a non-degenerated \(t\)-structure. If we write \(\mathcal A\) for the heart of the \(t\)-structure, the theorem relates by a homotopy equivalence a simplicial set associated to \(\mathcal A\) (and homotopy equivalent to Quillen's \(Q\)-construction) to a simplicial set associated directly to the triangulated category. These constructions have been introduced in the previous articles of the series and some of their properties have been already investigated. Before concluding the review of this series of articles, it should probably be pointed out that the series has had for a long time, among experts of the field, a controversial status.
