Let \(k\) be a field of characteristic \(p>0\). For a finite \(p\)-group \(P\), \(R_\mathbb{Q}(P)\) denotes the Grothendieck group of finitely generated \(\mathbb{Q} P\)-modules. The author investigates the \(k\)-linear functor \(kR_\mathbb{Q}\colon P\mapsto k\otimes_\mathbb{Z} R_\mathbb{Q}(P)\) from a category \(\mathcal C\) to the category of vector spaces over \(k\). The objects of \(\mathcal C\) are the finite \(p\)-groups, and for objects \(P,Q\) in \(\mathcal C\), the morphisms from \(P\) to \(Q\) are \(k\)-linear combinations of finite \(P\)-\(Q\)-bisets. The main result of the paper is the determination of the subfunctor structure of the functor \(kR_\mathbb{Q}\). If \(p\) is odd then the subfunctors of \(kR_\mathbb{Q}\) form a chain. For \(p=2\), the subfunctors of \(kR_\mathbb{Q}\) are closely related to a graph whose vertices are the finite 2-groups of normal 2-rank 1.
