Mathematical diffraction theory is concerned with the Fourier transform of the autocorrelation of unbounded, but translation bounded, measures. Beyond crystals and perfect quasicrystals, which are both pure point diffractive, systems with random components are of increasing interest. Here, Dirac combs with random weigths and/or random displacements are studied. Previous results by Hof and by Baake, Höffe and Moody are generalized by freeing them from many of the assumptions previously needed for the proofs. Furthermore, and more importantly, finite volume estimates are derived that quantify the probability for a deviation of the diffraction image of a (large) finite system from its sample average. The proof for the large deviation type bound is based on a cluster expansion and also provides a central limit theorem.
