Generalized Clifford algebras are obtained as algebra extensions of elementary abelian groups. This generalization is equivalent to the group algebra of extra special \(p\)-groups, with the center of the groups amalgamated to a central subgroup of the field. Ordinary Clifford algebras are related to extra special 2-groups. Extra special \(p\)-groups can be factored as central products of \(p\)-groups of order 3. The construction of therewith related generalized Clifford algebras requires the existence of a \(p\)-root of unity in the field. Hence such a generalization does not exist for real Clifford algebras. Results from cohomology theory are applied to the elementary extra special \(p\)-groups of order \(p^3\).
