The authors deal with an approach to high-frequency wave scattering problems, where on surface radiation conditions (OSRC) are used in order to obtain the potential without solving large systems of linear equations. The proposed approach to derive an OSRC is based, assuming that the curvature is locally constant, on the use of the analytical solution on a circular cylinder (in 2D) or a sphere (in 3D) and the approximations of the logarithmic derivatives of the corresponding Hankel functions. The approximation of the logarithmic derivative is also used for deriving a generalized physical optics approximation for Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. Computations for simple objects corresponding to all different approximations introduced in the paper are presented.
