A group \(G\) is cohopfian if any injective endomorphism \(f\colon G\to G\) is surjective. The authors study the co-Hopf property for one-ended, non-elementary, geometrically finite Kleinian groups. The main result of the paper is the following criterion: a non-elementary, geometrically finite, one-ended Kleinian group without 2-torsion is cohopfian if and only if \(G\) does not admit essentially non-maximal splittings as a graph of groups and does not split as an amalgamated free product \(G=A*_C\widetilde C\), where \(\widetilde C\) is a maximal elementary subgroup containing the infinite elementary group \(C\), such that the closure of \(C\) in \(\widetilde C\) is of infinite index. For the proof the notion of relative cohopficity is introduced. The absolute cohopficity criterion follows from its relative version.
