On real Cartan factors (Q1357574)

Real forms of (complex) Cartan factors are called real Cartan factors. The author determines the conjugations of the underlying complex Banach space of every non-exceptional (complex) Cartan factor. Jointly with the previous classification of the exceptional types given by O. Loos, this allows to give the classification up to isomorphisms of the real Cartan factors. Automorphisms groups and surjective \(\mathbb{R}\)-linear isometries are studied. Moreover a complete system of invariants is given, which allows to decide when two real or complex Cartan factors are isometrically equivalent as real Banach spaces.
