This article surveys important results related to recent fundamental conjectures in Finite Group Modular Representation Theory. Alperin's weight conjecture (Conjecture 2.2) and Broué's Abelian Defect Group Conjecture (Conjecture 3.1) are stated. Then, in Section 4, fundamental results that give necessary and sufficient conditions for the equivalence of the bounded derived categories \(D^b(R)\) of \(\text{mod}(R)\) and \(D^b(S)\) of \(\text{mod}(S)\) as triangulated categories of two rings \(R\) and \(S\) are presented. These results are applied, in Section 5, to group algebras to motivate the weaker Perfect Isometry Conjecture of Broué (Conjecture 5.1). A Splendid Equivalence (Section 6) for blocks of finite groups requires a splendid tilting complex. Such a complex yields local derived equivalences that is compatible with the global derived equivalence and yields (on the character level) local perfect isometries that are compatible with the global perfect isometry. Recent progress on some of these conjectures is discussed in Section 7.
