The author proves the existence of a \(C^2\)-bounded non-constant solution on the half-line \(\mathbb{R}_+\) for the second order differential equation \[ u''-c(x)u'+ b(x)g(u)=0,\tag{1} \] with the initial condition \(u(0)=u_0\), where \(c,b:[0,\infty)\to \mathbb{R}\) are continuous functions, \(0\leq c(x)\leq c_1\), \(0<b_0\leq b(x)\leq b_1\), \(b_0,b_1,c_1\in (0,\infty)\). \(g\) is supposed to be a non-negative Lipschitz function with a compact support and at most finitely many zeros in it. The proof is based on a shooting argument. The application of the above results onto a boundary value problem on the real line \(\mathbb{R}\) for a special case of the ordinary differential equations (1) is shown. The considered problems appear in the study of combustion models and in the theory of population genetics.
