The authors consider a steady, two-dimensional, inviscid and irrotational flow in a channel with free surface and a submerged obstacle. For small thickness of the obstacle, the authors show the existence of a solution to Euler equations with nonlinear (Bernoulli) boundary conditions. The results build heavily upon results on the linear problem that the authors had obtained in part I [see the foregoing entry]. Introducing velocity potential and stream function as independent variables, the free boundary problem is reduced to a problem posed in an infinite strip with a cut in the interior. The solution is then obtained as a perturbation from the linear approximation, using a Newton-type iteration procedure and implicit function theorems on scales of Banach spaces.
