The approach to the theory of finite \(p\)-groups via the coclass invariant, as introduced by \textit{C. R. Leedham-Green} and \textit{M. F. Newman} [Arch. Math. 35, 193-202 (1980; Zbl 0437.20016)] has been extremely successful. \textit{B. Eick} and \textit{C. Leedham-Green} have introduced [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 40, No. 2, 274-288 (2008; Zbl 1168.20007)] the concept of coclass families, which are certain infinite families of finite \(p\)-groups of a given coclass which share structural properties, and can thus be treated uniformly. See for instance the recent contribution [J. Algebra 421, 102-118 (2015; Zbl 1307.20017)] by the first author to the case of metabelian groups. The main result of the paper under review is that all but a finite number of the \(p\)-groups in a given coclass family have equivalent Quillen categories. This yields in particular a contribution to the still open problem, whether the mod-\(p\) cohomology rings of the groups in a coclass family are all isomorphic.
