The problem of local feedback stabilization is considered for smooth control systems in \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\) of the form \(\dot x=f(x,u)\), \(f(0,0)=0\) whose linear approximation at (0,0) has a pair of complex conjugate eigenvalues with zero real part. Sufficient conditions are found for the system to be rendered a locally asymptotically stable periodic orbit by plunging the system into a one-parameter family of systems and invoking the Hopf bifurcation theory. In particular, the stabilizing feedback is calculated explicitly under the assumption that the suitable Floquet characteristic exponent of the periodic orbit has a nonvanishing quadratic term.
