The authors study one-parameter continuous semigroups of analytic functions \(\{F_t\}_{t\geq 0}\) defined on the right half plane \(\Pi\) and the corresponding semigroup of composition operators \(\{C_t\}_{t\geq 0}\) where \(C_t(\varphi)=\varphi\circ F\) acts on the Hardy spaces \(H^p(\Pi)\). The theory is quite different from the already well developed one in the unit disc. The authors get some extensions of the results by \textit{A. G. Arvanitidis} [Acta Sci. Math. 81, No. 1--2, 293--308 (2015; Zbl 1363.47078)] and \textit{C. Avicou} et al. [J. Evol. Equ. 15, No. 3, 647--665 (2015; Zbl 1335.47025)]. One of the basic questions analyzed in the paper is the possibility of extending analytically the semigroup to a sector and its connection with the properties of the infinitesimal generator or its associated Königs function. Namely the authors show that, in the case where the semigroup has the Denjoy Wolf point at \(\infty\) and denoting by \(f\) the infinitesimal generator and by \(h\) the Königs function associated to it, the fact that, for \(0<\theta_1, \theta_2\) and \(\theta_1+\theta_2\leq \pi\), the semigroup \(\{F_t\}_{t\geq 0}\) extends analytically to \(\{F_\xi\}_{\xi\in \Omega(\theta_1,\theta_2)}\) such that \(F_\xi(z)\) tends to \(\infty\) along any ray in \(\Omega(\theta_1,\theta_2)=\{\xi:-\theta_1<\mathrm{arg}(\xi)<\theta_2\}\) is equivalent to \(-\pi/2+\theta_1\leq \mathrm{arg }f(z)\leq \pi/2-\theta_2\), for all \(z\in \Pi\), or to \(h\) being convex in any direction in the sector \(\Omega(\theta_1,\theta_2)\). Also, for \(1\leq p<\infty\), a complete description of all composition operators acting on the Hardy space \(H^p(\Pi)\) is presented.
