Consider the boundary value problem \[ \varepsilon^2 y'' - f(x,y)=0, \qquad 0 < x < 1, \quad y' (0) = y'(1) =0. \tag \(*\) \] It is assumed that the degenerate equation \(f(x,y)=0\) has two smooth solutions \(y=y_1 (x)\) and \(y=y_2 (x)\) intersecting at a point \(x_0 \in (0,1)\) (exchange of stability). The authors prove a theorem on the existence of a solution to \((*)\) and describe its asymptotic behavior in \(\varepsilon\) near \(x_0\). Finally, they consider the case that \(f\) depends on \(\varepsilon\). In that case, they prove that the asymptotic behavior near \(x_0\) differs from the case above.
