Let \(M\) be a maximal subgroup of a group \(G\) and let \((A,B)\) be a pair of subgroups of \(G\) such that \(B\triangleleft G\), \(B\leq M\), \(A\not\leq M\) and \(A/B\) contains no proper non-trivial normal subgroups of \(G/B\). Then \((A,B)\) is called a \(\theta\)-pair for \(M\). Let \(\theta(M)\) be the set of all \(\theta\)-pairs for \(M\), and partially order \(\theta(M)\) by \((A,B)\leq (C,D)\) if and only if \(A\leq C\). The main result is Theorem 2: Let \(G\) be a group with a supersoluble maximal subgroup \(M\) not containing the Fitting subgroup \(\text{Fit}(G)\). If \(\theta(M)\) has a maximal pair \((A,B)\) such that \(A/B\) is cyclic and \(A\) is subnormal in \(G\), then \(G\) is supersoluble. This result is then applied to prove Theorem 1: Let \(G\) be a group with a supersoluble maximal subgroup \(M\) such that \(\text{Fit}(G)\cap M\) is maximal in \(\text{Fit}(G)\). Then \(G\) is supersoluble.
