The authors computed unsteady, two-dimensional, turbulent flow about an oscillating wing section with an implicit, finite difference solution of the Navier-Stokes equations, which were closed with five turbulence models. The aim of the investigation was to assess the accuracy of the models, especially for the prediction of the retreating blade stall of helicopters. The major finding of the investigation was that all models show defects and that no single model predicts the airloads consistently and in agreement with experimental data. Further work on turbulence modelling for this specific type of flows seems to be necessary.
