The authors of this very interesting paper study the scalar perturbation of static charged dilaton black holes in \(3+1\) dimension found by Gibbons et al. (1988) and Garfinkle et al. (1991). The equations of motion have the form \[ R_{\alpha \beta }=e^{-2a\phi }\biggl(2F_{\alpha \gamma }F_{\beta }^{\gamma }+{1\over 2}F^2g_{\alpha \beta}\biggr) + 2\partial_{\alpha }\phi \partial_{\beta }\phi , \] \[ \nabla^{\mu }\nabla_{\mu }\phi - {1\over 2}ae^{-2a\phi }F^2=0 , \] \[ \nabla_{\mu }(e^{-2a\phi }F^{\mu \nu })=0 . \] Gibbons et al. (1988) proposed a mathematical model of static black hole with spherical symmetry. Such black holes can be described by the equations \[ ds^2=-f(r)dt^2+f(r)^{-1}dr^2+R(r)^2(d\theta ^2+ \text{Sin}^2 (\theta )d\phi ) , \] \[ f(r)=\biggl(1-{r_+\over r}\biggr)\biggl(1-{r_-\over r}\biggr)^{{1-a^2\over {1+a^2}}} , \] \[ R(r)^2=r^2\biggl(1-{r_-\over r}\biggr)^{{2a^2\over {1+a^2}}} , \] where \(r_{+}\) and \(r_{-}\) are the outer and inner horizons respectively. The black hole is a solution to the low-energy string theory in \(3+1\) dimension. The quasinormal modes for the scalar perturbations are calculated by the WKB method. It turns out that the dilaton coupling constant has a considerable effect on the values of quasi-normal modes. It is also observed that there is a linear relation between the quasi-normal modes and the temperature for large black holes.
