A Riemannian manifold is asymptotically hyperbolic if the metric and its derivatives converge to the standard hyperbolic metric near infinity. Such manifolds are studied in relation to the lightcones in spacetime manifolds. The author constructs a foliation of asymptotically hyperbolic 3-surfaces by 2-surfaces with constant mean curvature and homeomorphic to spheres. He uses the positivity of the mass to show that the flowing surfaces are not drifting away to infinity and the positivity of the eigenvalue of the stability operator to prove convergence. The spheres mentioned above allow the definition of a center of mass for the Bondi case, as they can be used to define a geometric intrinsic radius coordinate in the outer region.
