Author considers the torsion of an incompressible elastic half space by a rigid rod bonded to its surface. According to the first order theory the azimuthal displacement is zero. The second order theory predicts that the rod will always rise out of the half space if it is not fixed axially. If one prevents the azimuthal displacement, it is necessary to push the rod into the half space while it is being twisted, i.e. a reactive force is produced. The uniqueness of the nonlinear solution is discussed also.
