The author considers plane convex bodies in two-dimensional non-Euclidean geometries. The fundamental question of this paper is whether the Steiner symmetrization preserves convexity. While in the classical Euclidean convex geometry Steiners's symmetrization and the derived Schwarz symmetrization preserve convexity the author can demonstrate that convexity in the spherical and in the hyperbolic case in general is not preserved. But he can give a criterion for the preservation of local convexity. There he uses a property for a compact connected set called \(h_r\)-convexity which refers to the distance curves \(h_r\) of a geodesic \(h_o\) in the corresponding space which are used for Steiner's symmetrization.
