Let \(A\in \mathbb{C}^{m \times n}\) and \(0 \neq W\in \mathbb{C}^{n \times m}\). Let \(k\) denote the minimum of the indices of the matrices \(AW\) and \(WA\) (the index of a matrix \(B\) is the smallest nonnegative integer \(k\) such that the ranks of \(B^k\) and \(B^{k+1}\) are the same). Let \(\mathcal{R}(.)\) denote the range space and for a matrix \(B\), let \(P_B\) denote the orthogonal projection onto \(\mathcal{R}(B)\). The W-weighted core-EP-inverse of \(A\) is the unique matrix \(X\) satisfying the conditions \(WAWX=P_{(WA)^k}\) and \(\mathcal{R}(X) \subseteq\mathcal{R}((AW)^k)\). The authors study a new binary relation involving the weighted core-EP inverse and present its characterizations. This relation turns out to be a pre-order. They then consider one-sided pre-orders from two distinct perspectives. A comparison is also given.
