The paper establishes some density results for subsets in spaces of continuous functions, with a paricular emphasis on approximation by ridge functions. For a topological space \(X\), let \({\mathbb R}^X\) be the set of continuous real-valued functions on \(X\). Theorem 3. Let \(X\) be a locally compact Hausdorff space, let \(T\) be a compact metric Hausdorff space, and let \({\mathcal M}\) be a dense subset of \({\mathbb R}^X\). Then the set \({\mathcal M}^T\) is dense in \(({\mathbb R}^X)^T\). From this, a number of results concerning ridge functions is derived. For example, let \(h:{\mathbb R}\to {\mathbb R}\) be such that the set of all functions of the form \[ \sum_1^n c_i h(a_i\cdot x+b_i), \] where \(n \in {\mathbb N}\), \(c_i \in {\mathbb R}\), \(x, a_i \in {\mathbb R}^d\), \(b_i \in {\mathbb R}\), is dense in \(C({\mathbb R}^d)\). Then the set of functions \[ \sum_1^n c_i(t)h(a_i\cdot x+b_i), \] where \(c_i \in C(T)\), is dense in \(C({\mathbb R}^d)^T\).
