The purpose of the paper under review is the study the Prüfer condition on pullbacks. The main result of this paper is as follows. Let \(\pi:B\to T\) be a surjective ring homomorphism (of commutative rings), where \(T\) is an overring of some ring \(R\). Assume that \(\mbox{ker}(\pi)\) is a regular ideal of \(B\), that is \(\mbox{ker}(\pi)\) contains a regular ideal of \(B\). Set \(A:=\pi^{-1}(R)\). Then (1) \(A\) is a Prüfer ring if and only if both \(B\) and \(R\) are Prüfer rings; (2) \(A\) is a Gaussian (resp. arithmetical) ring if and only if both \(B\) and \(R\) are Gaussian (resp. arithmetical) rings; (3) if both \(B\) and \(R\) are rings with weak global dimension \(\leq1\) (resp. semi-hereditary rings), then so is \(A\). This result generalized and is more direct than Theorem 4.2 of [\textit{J. G. Boynton}, J. Algebra 320, No. 6, 2559--2566 (2008; Zbl 1166.13020)]. Using this result some examples of Prüfer rings and application are given. In particular if we further assume in the above result that the total quotient ring of \(R\) is an absolutely flat ring, then for \(n=1,\ldots,5\), \(A\) has Prüfer condition \((n)\) if and only if both \(B\) and \(R\) have the same Prüfer condition \((n)\) and \(T\) is an overring of \(R\). The authors also considered pre-Prüfer rings and defined and studied regular morphisms.
