The authors develop a high-order compact finite-difference scheme for a heat transport equation at the microscale. This equation is different from the traditional heat diffusion equation since a second order derivative of the temperature with respect to time and a third-order mixed derivative of the temperature are introduced. Using the discrete Fourier analysis method, it is proved that the scheme is unconditionally stable with respect to the initial values. The numerical results show that the solution is accurate. The method can be generalized to the case where a higher-order compact finite difference is employed.
