The paper deals with the Monge-Ampère type equation \[ \det(\nabla^2 H+HI)=fH^{-{(n+2)}}, \] where \(f\) is a given positive function, \(H\) is the support function of a bounded convex body \(K\) in \({\mathbb R}^{n+1}\), \(I\) is the unit matrix and \(\nabla^2 H\) is the Hessian matrix of the covariant derivatives of \(H\) with respect to an orthonormal frame on the standard unit sphere \(S^n\). If the convex body \(K\) is smooth with positive Gauss curvature and the origin in its interior, the quantity \[ 1\over{H^{n+2}\det(\nabla^2 H+HI)} \] is the centro-affine Gauss curvature of \(\partial K\). So the centro-affine Minkowski problem is equivalent to the solution of the above equation. Furthermore in case of \(p=-n-1\) this equation characterizes an \(L_p\)-Minkowski problem. The authors obtain two sufficient conditions for a \((n+1)\)-mirror symmetric solution using calculus of variations and blow-up analyses.
