The authors consider a non-integrable model for interacting dimers on the two-dimensional square lattice \(\mathbb Z^2\). In this model, the configurations are perfect matchings of \(\mathbb Z^2\). Dimer configurations are in bijection with discrete height functions, defined on faces \(\xi\) of \(\mathbb Z^2\). According to \textit{P. W. Kasteleyn} [Physica 27, 1209--1225 (1961; Zbl 1244.82014); ``Dimer statistics and phase transitions'', J. Math. Phys. 4, 287--293 (1963)], the non-interacting model is exactly solvable; it is known that all the moments of the height difference \(h_\xi-h_\eta\) converge to those of the massless Gaussian free field (GFF), asymptotically as \(|\xi-\eta|\to\infty\). In the present paper, using extended methods of the constructive renormalization group [\textit{P. Falco}, ``Height fluctuations in interacting dimers'', Phys. Rev. E 87, 060101 (2013)], the same kind of result for small non-zero interactions is proved, which was conjectured in the theoretical physics literature. The proof is based on an exact representation of the model in terms of lattice interacting fermions, which are studied by constructive field theory methods.
