Motivated by the works of \textit{G. Wang, G. Song} and \textit{L. Zhang} [J. Comput. Appl. Math. (2008) doi: 101016/j.cam. 2008.08.030], the authors discuss the external solution of first order impulsive differential equations with integral boundary value conditions. First a new comparison theorem is proved. The monotone iterative method due to \textit{G. S. Ladde, V. Lakshmikantham} and \textit{A. S. Vatsala} [Monotone iterative techniques for nonlinear differential equations. Monographs, Advanced Texts and Surveys in Pure and Applied Mathematics, 27. Boston-London: Pitman (Advanced Publishing Program); New York: John Wiley \& Sons, Inc. (1985; Zbl 0658.35003)] and \textit{L. Liu} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 42, No.~4, A, 583--598 (2000; Zbl 0962.45007)], is used to investigate the existence of extreme solutions for differential equations with initial and boundary conditions. An illustrative example is also discussed in detail.
