    This paper continues the study of the permutation modules of the finite classical groups in their natural rank 3 actions started by the author for the unitary groups [ibid. 88, 317-329 (1984; reviewed above)]. In this paper he considers the symplectic groups and orthogonal groups. Let \(G=Sp(2m,q)\) (m\(\geq 2)\) with its natural action on the vector space V over \(F_ q\), regarded as a rank 3 permutation group on the set \(\Omega\) of one-dimensional subspaces of V. Let F be a field of characteristic 0 or p where \((p,q)=1\). In [loc.cit.] the author defined two submodules of the FG-module \(F\Omega\), called graph submodules, using the parameters of the strongly regular graph associated with G. He proves (1.1) the following theorem: Let U be a submodule of \(F\Omega\) such that \(U\not\subseteq T\), where \(T=<\sum_{\omega \in \Omega}\omega >\). Then U contains a graph submodule. He then obtains the lattice of submodules of \(F\Omega\). A similar theorem (2.1, 2.2) is proved for the orthogonal groups.
