Let \(\Omega\subset\mathbb Rw^{n}\) for \(n\leq2,\) be a bounded domain; let \(Q_{\epsilon }\subset\mathbb Rw^{n+1},\) with \(\epsilon>0,\) be the bounded thin domain \(Q_{\epsilon }=\{(X,Y)\in\mathbb Rw^{n+1};X\in\Omega,0<Y<g(X,\epsilon)\}\) where \(g:\Omega \times(0,\epsilon_{0})\rightarrow\mathbb Rw^{+}\) is a function of class \(C^{3}\) satisfying \(g(X,0)=0,\) and \(\frac{\partial g}{\partial\epsilon}(X,0)>0.\) For \(\alpha,\beta>0,\) the author considers the following system of damped wave equations with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions: \[ \begin{cases} U_{tt}+\beta U_{t}+\alpha U-\Delta U=f(t,X,Y,U)&\text{in }Q_{\epsilon}\\ \frac{\partial U}{\partial\nu}=0&\text{in }\partial Q_{\epsilon} \end{cases}\tag{1} \] where \(U=(U_{1},\dots,U_{d})^{t},d>1.\) The function \(f=(f_{1},\dots,f_{d})^{t}:R\times\overline{Q_{\epsilon}}\times\mathbb Rw^{d}\rightarrow\mathbb Rw^{d},\) is \(C^{2},T_{0}\)-periodic and satisfies some additional condition, depending on whether the non-autonomous or the autonomous case is considered. The author shows the existence and uniqueness of a periodic solution in both non-autonomous and autonomous cases. This problem was previously studied by \textit{R. Johnson, M. Kamenskii} and \textit{P. Nistri} [J. Differ. Equations 140, No. 1, 186--208 (1997; Zbl 0890.35078) and J. Dyn. Differ. Equations 10, No. 3, 409--424 (1998); erratum ibid. 12, No. 3, 675--679 (2000; Zbl 0910.35009) and J. Comput. Appl. Math. 113, No. 1--2, 123--139 (2000; Zbl 0956.35015)] in the particular case where the thin domain is a product domain \(\Omega \times (0,\epsilon ).\) They use a functional characterization of the periodic solutions, and obtain a periodic solution as a fixed point of that functional by using the topological degree theory. The author also uses the same functional, but shows the existence and uniqueness of the periodic solution by a fixed point theorem, instead of using the topological index theory which does not allow to show the uniqueness of the periodic solution.
