In this paper a formula is obtained for the curvature of the Weil- Petersson metric on moduli spaces of compact polarized Kähler-Einstein manifolds with vanishing first Chern class. This formula shows in particular that when the manifolds are symplectic in a holomorphic sense (e.g. K3 surfaces) the holomorphic sectional curvature is negative, as was proved recently by Schumacher.
