The author proves the interesting theorem that a complete, simply connected Riemannian manifold without conjugate points is isometric to the Euclidean space if its integral scalar curvature vanishes and its absolute integral Ricci curvature exists. The proof is related to arguments made by \textit{E. Hopf} [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 34, 47-51 (1948; Zbl 0030.07901)] and \textit{L. W. Green} [Mich. Math. J. 5, 31-34 (1958; Zbl 0134.396)] for compact manifolds.
