Logicoalgebraic structures. I (Q1325650)

This paper is a brief survey article that describes some basic notions and properties of quantum logics (= \(\sigma\)-orthomodular posets). It presents the physical motivation and several examples (including such important constructions as direct product, horizontal sum and Greechie diagram). The main attemtion is given to compatibility (commutators), to joint distributions of observables and to their relationship to uncertainty relations, Boolean quotients and Bell inequalities. As a complement, the result of \textit{M. Navara} [Int. J. Theor. Phys. 31, No. 6, 925-935 (1992; Zbl 0771.03021)] about the independence of center, automorphisms and state space is included.
