A map \( f: \Sigma \rightarrow S^2\) from a surface of genus \(g\) to the 2-sphere is called a branched covering map if it is locally equivalent to the map \( z \rightarrow z^m\). The points of \(S^2\) around which the local map \( z \rightarrow z^m \) has degree \(m > 1\) are called branching points of the map \(f\). The author computes the number of equivalence classes of such branched covering maps with exactly three branching points and with branch data of a specified form. The equivalence classes are computed by using Grothendieck's dessins d'enfant. The paper contains a lot of computational work, which is a little hard to verify.
