Summary: Following the line of the first author et al. [Appl. Math. Lett. 24, No. 9, 1509--1514 (2011; Zbl 1223.40004)] and \textit{E. Savas} and the first author [Appl. Math. Lett. 24, No. 6, 826--830 (2011; Zbl 1220.40004)], we make a new approach in this paper to extend the notion of strong convergence and more general strong statistical convergence [\textit{C. Şençimen} and \textit{S. Pehlivan}, Stochastic Anal. Appl. 26, No. 3, 651--664 (2008; Zbl 1147.54015); Appl. Anal. 87, No. 3, 377--384 (2008; Zbl 1143.54012)] using ideals and introduce the notion of strong \(\mathcal{I}\)- and \(\mathcal{I}^*\)-statistical convergence and two related concepts, namely, strong \(\mathcal{I}\)-lacunary statistical convergence and strong \(\mathcal{I}\)-\(\lambda\)-statistical convergence in a probabilistic metric space endowed with strong topology. We mainly investigate their interrelationship and study some of their important properties.
