    The authors prove criteria for the unique solvability in the ill-posed case. The well-posed case was studied in [authors, Differ. Urav. 39, No. 4, 516--526 (2003; Zbl 1065.35173)] Let \(m\) and \(n\) be positive integers, let \(0<b<+\infty\), and let \(I\subset \mathbb{R}\) be a compact interval containing zero. In the rectangle \(\Omega=I\times[0,b]\), we consider the linear hyperbolic equation \[ u^{(m,n)}=\sum^{n-1}_{k=0}p_{mk} (x,y) u^{(m,k)}+\sum^{m-1}_{j=0}\sum^n_{k=0} p_{jk}(x,y) u^{(j,k)}+ q(x,y) \] with the initial-boundary conditions \[ \begin{aligned} u^{(j,0)}(0,y)= \varphi_j(y)\quad & (j=0,\dots,m-1),\\ h_k\bigl(u^{(m,0)} (x,\cdot) \bigr)(x)=\psi_k(x)\quad & (k=1,\dots,n),\end{aligned} \] where \(u^{(j,k)} (x,y)=\partial^{j+k} u(x,y)/\partial x^j\partial y^k\), the coefficients are continuous real functions on \(\Omega\), \(\varphi_j\in C^n([0,b])\) \((j=0, \dots,m-1)\), \(\psi_k\in C(I)\) \((k=1,\dots,n)\), and the \(h_k:C^{n-1} ([0,b])\to C(I)\) \((k=1,\dots,n)\) are linear bounded operators.
