Let \(G\) be a topological group and let \(S\) be a representation of \(G\) in a normed space. The notion \(\omega(S)\) of weak variation of \(S\) at the identity of \(G\) was introduced by the author earlier [Russ. J. Math. Phys. 9, No. 2, 250--252 (2002; Zbl 1104.22300)]. In this paper, the author gave some interesting characterizations of an open normal connected subgroup \(0\leq G\) such that every finite-dimensional representation \(S\) of \(0\) satisfying certain bound on \(\omega(S)\) is continuous. The author also shows that the result fails for topological groups even in the class of commutative pseudocompact groups.
