The author studies local geometric properties of manifolds with almost nowhere vanishing closed 2-form. Let M be a manifold with a closed 2-form nondegenerate at all points of a dense proper subset. Clearly, M is not a symplectic manifold and the symplectic geometry of M has singularities. More precisely, Poisson brackets and Hamiltonian vector fields are not well defined. In this paper, the author finds a condition for Hamiltonian vector fields to be extended smoothly at singular points satisfying a natural regularity condition. Then the author obtains a generalization of Darboux's theorem asserting the local reducibility of the matrix of the 2-form to canonical form. Finally, the singular behavior of directional gradients is studied.
