The authors derive an exact solution for an infinite, anisotropic piezoelectric medium with rigid line inclusion and a crack, based on the fundamental idea of the Stroh formalism in anisotropic elasticity. The explicit real-form solution on the boundary of the inclusion and the matrix is given, and the classical \(1/\sqrt {r}\) type of singularity for elastic and electric field components in the neighborhood of the crack and inclusion tip is obtained. In contrast to the classical formulation, the Stroh formalism has been proved to be elegant and simple in solving two-dimensional anisotropic piezo-electric problems. This work is quite interesting and may find readers working in the area of anisotropic elasticity.
