The author first describes the development of the educational system in Moslem India and then gives a detailed description of the manuscript evidence for the sources of the study of geometry in this system. He points out that almost all scholarly texts on the subject found in India are in Arabic and that only the encyclopedias, written for the general educated public, were in Persian, the official language of the Moghul court. This is in contrast to texts in other sciences and may show that geometry never became thoroughly absorbed the scholarly Muslim society in India.
