The authors present an inequality complementary to the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality for Hilbert space operators and give some bounds for \(\langle T^3u, u\rangle\) in terms of the ratio of \(\langle T^2u, u\rangle\) and \(\langle Tu,u\rangle\) for \(0 < a \leq T \leq b\). It is shown that an upper bound for the spectral radius of a positive definite matrix \(C\) is a root of a particular cubic equation, whose coefficients are the functions of traces of \(C, C^2\), and \(C^3\); see \textit{H. Wolkowicz} and \textit{G. P. H. Styan} [Linear Algebra Appl. 29, 471--506 (1980; Zbl 0435.15015)].
