Let \(\Psi\) be a given set of square-integrable functions such that their dilates and integer shifts form a tight wavelet frame. Possibly, none of the elements in \(\Psi\) has symmetry. In this paper, the authors proposed a simple and general procedure for obtaining a new set \(\Psi'\) of generators such that \(\Psi'\) not only generates a tight wavelet frame but also every element in \(\Psi'\) possess symmetry. The main idea for the procedure is to split any given square-integrable function into a pair of functions such that one is symmetric and the other is anti-symmetric, while the tight wavelet frame property is still preserved. If the generators in \(\Psi\) are derived via a multiresolution analysis, then the derived new generators in \(\Psi'\) with symmetry can also be derived via a (possibly different) multiresolution analysis. Many interesting examples are provided to illustrate the procedure.
