Let \(G\) be a reductive Lie group with Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\). Let \(\mathcal O\) be the coadjoint orbit of a hyperbolic element \(\eta \in {\mathfrak g}^{\ast}\). Assume that \(\mathcal O\) is integral and then associated with a unitary irreducible representation \(\pi\) of \(G\). The author gives geometric interpretations of some invariants of \(\pi\) (as the constants \(\pi (g)\) for \(g\) in the center of \(G\) and the infinitesimal character of the derived representation \(d\pi\)) in terms of concepts related to \(\mathcal O\). This allows the author, in turn, to offer physical interpretations of these invariants in terms of action integrals and Berry phases along curves generated in physical systems by the action of some symmetry groups relevant in physics such a SO\((p,q)\), Sp\((2n)\) and SL\((n,{\mathbb R})\).
